Deborah Susan Murphy - Lake, 71 of Annapolis, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 after a long illness. Born November 22, 1951, she was the daughter of Ruth Violet Long and Clarence Gene Leggett. She grew up and spent most of her life in Annapolis, MD.
Deborah was a paralegal by trade. She was courted by competing Annapolis law firms throughout her career and was known to break a typewriter or two due to her strong and impeccable typing skills. In the early 1970s, Deborah raced Austin-Healey Sprites and Buick Opels. She was also a gifted photographer. Many of her photos were picked up and published by the Capital Gazette. She had an immense love of all animals and people. Sometimes on Thanksgiving, she was known to venture into Washington, DC or Baltimore, MD to help deliver food for the homeless and less fortunate. Despite all of these things, the job that she cherished the most was being a mother.
Deborah is survived by her two beloved sons, Matthew Murphy of Annapolis, MD and Benjamin Murphy of Silver Spring, MD; her former husband, Walter (Bucky) Murphy Jr. of Annapolis, MD; her sisters Linda Cook of Timberlake, NC and Christine O'Hagin of Gibsonton, FL; her brother Mark Leggett of Harrington, DE; and her nephew Zuni Johnson of Charlotte, NC and the extended Hatfield family.
