Walter Jarnot

Walter Jacob Jarnot, 89, passed away on September 4, 2015 in Ann Arbor MI. He was the son of the late Joseph Jacob Jarnot and Mary (Kolodziej) Jarnot. Born and raised in Buffalo NY, he was a graduate of Georgetown University. He worked for the Internal Revenue Service as a regional manager of Eastern Michigan, Southeastern Massachusetts and many New York locations. Walter also directed and developed management programs for other IRS managers implementing new protocols and technologies. He retired from the government after 33 years of service. In WWII, Walter served as an infantryman with the 80th Division, (Blue Ridge Mountain Boys), engaging in the Battle of the Bulge with his Division. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1946, achieving the rank of Sergeant. Walter valued family most of all. He loved spending his time with them, whether it was at a Red Sox baseball game, church social events, or just sharing a meal with friends and family. In his retirement, Walter was co-founder of the non-profit organization, The Friends of Poland, an organization that collected and distributed medical texts, supplies and refurbished ambulances to Poland. This provided support to their universities as well as towns and cities. He remained active in the organization, acting as president as well as many other positions. Through corporate and individual contributions, tens of millions of dollars of books, supplies, and equipment were sent to Poland. He was also a devoted member of St. Francis of Assisi & St. Thomas the Apostle Churches in Ann Arbor MI. Through the church, he and his wife, Del, volunteered as Prison Ministers in Ann Arbor, MI and Cape Cod, MA. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Delphine (Giras) Jarnot, his brother and sister-in-law Edward & Wanda Jarnot, brother-in-law Richard Piontek , five children and their spouses. Ellen & Jeffrey Osborn, Joseph and Dee Jarnot, Lee Anne & John Shaheen, Charles & Paula Jarnot, and Sharon A. Jarnot, 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation hours are 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at the Dengler, Roberts, Perna Funeral Home at 3000 Delaware Ave. Kenmore, NY. 14217. A funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at St. Bernard’s Church, 1990 Clinton St., Buffalo, NY, 14208. Burial will follow at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery.
