I am so sorry to hear of Pat's death. I grew up across the street from her on Lowe Avenue in Chicago. I even visited her in Thailand in 1969, we had such a great time. I have so many memories of Pat, Paul and Joe and Rosie. They were like a second family to me growing up. 
We lost contact shortly after Paul and Cindy were married. I moved out East and when I returned back to the Chicago area in 1996, I tried to contact Pat and  Paul, but could never find them.
Today I thought I might try contacting Pat and that is when I found this obituary notice.
I am so sorry that we did not have the chance to see each other again.

Just learned of the untimely passing.  Pat truly was one-of-a-kind; a very special person whom we came to know at Nature Cove.  May she rest in peace.  Our condolences to the family.

My sincerest sympathy to your family in your loss.  I first got to know Pat when she was a graduate student in CCS and  worked with her in the China Center for many years. Had a wonderful trip with her and her grandsons that she organized to China in 1990 that I will never forget.  She was a tireless supporter of all things related to China, and a truly unique individual.  She will be missed.

My heartfelt sympathy to Pat's family at this difficult time.  I will always remember Pat as a friend and a colleague.  She was such an energetic person.  She shared her wealth of life experiences with those of us who benefited from her caring and concern.  I know she loved her family very deeply and wish them the knowledge that she will always be with them in their hearts.

Very sad to hear this news today; Pat was a colleague and for many years, worked at the U-M Center for Chinese Studies. I will make a donation to CCS in her memory and to a life well lived.

My son Nate and I have many happy memories of spending time with Pat. When he was little and I had to bring him to the office, she volunteered her director's couch for him to nap on. We had the pleasure and privilege of traveling to China with Pat and Michelle. It was a trip of a lifetime!

I think of her sage advice often and marveled at the stories of her many travels. She lived her life well.

Pat O'Connell-Young is a wonderful friend and colleague from our time together in the China Center and Japan Center. I shall miss getting together with our friends there and Pat. She had such wonderful stories! She loved her family so much and she introduced so many people (both her family and her extended friend family) to the "real" China with her trips there. She will be so missed.

I was sorry to hear of Pat's passing.  My sister, Donna Smallwood, worked with Pat at the U of M.  When Donna became ill and was spending so much time in the hospital, Pat made it a point to visit her every day.  Pat's thoughtfulness was very much appreciated by Donna and our family.  Thank you Pat, and our thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time.
