She graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1952 and the University of Michigan in 1956. She married William C. Cassebaum (Bill) in 1956.
She and her husband lived in Mt. Bethel, Pennsylvania for almost 40 years. Janet served as an Elder at the Portland Presbyterian Church and on the board of directors of various civic groups, including the Northampton County Historical Society, the Visiting Nurse Association, the State Theater in Easton and the Maroon Club of Lafayette College.
After retirement to Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1998, Janet became active in the life of the city and the University. She was a member the Ann Arbor City Club. Her involvement in the University included co-chair of the seat Campaign for the Arthur Miller Theater, Board member of Visitors of the Institute for the Humanities, Board member of the Friends of the University Libraries and a supporter of the School of Music, Theater & Dance. She was a member of the Victors Club and avid fan of Michigan athletics.
In addition to her husband of 66 years, she is survived by daughters JoAnn Weisel (John) and Ellen Geldbaugh (Mark), grandsons Peter Weisel (Kelsea) and Thomas Weisel and granddaughter Shen Geldbaugh.
Janet was laid to rest in Forest Hill Cemetery in a private family service. A memorial service will be held at a future date.
