6/11/32-7/17/17 Ann Arbor, Michigan. Irene May Rodriguez (Beranek), 85, passed away peacefully on July 17th at her cherished home on 5th Street. Irene was born on June 11th, 1932 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Emily and Harold Beranek, and brothers Thomas and James, as well as sisters, Catherine, Margaret, and Doris. Irene was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, John Rodriguez. Irene spent many years as a homemaker enjoying gardening, baking, socializing, playing cards, Bingo, trips to the casino, and going fishing. She enjoyed bringing her “kids” homemade salsa, chili, and baked goods on daily visits to the Washtenaw Dairy. She could be found on her front porch swing on most nice days, enjoying coffee and the paper and watching the world go by. Irene had a great sense of humor, and was a loyal and loving friend to many. She loved her dog Pepe who could be found at her side at all times. She was a member of the Dexter American Legion and a longtime member of Ann Arbor Moose Lodge 1253. Irene will be long remembered and cherished by her five loving children, Diana (James) Douglass of Dexter, MI, Susan (Thomas) Armstrong of Makawao, HI, Kim Rodriguez of Ypsilanti, MI, John Rodriguez II of
Ann Arbor, and Andrea (Michael) Starwas, of Lytle Creek, CA. Also survived by her loving grandchildren Jessica (Scott MacInnis) Rodriguez, Donald Owens JR, Kelli (Scott) Downs, and Alexis Starwas. Also survived by her loving great-grandchildren Evan Vaughn, Kylah Owens-Rhodes, and June MacInnis. Irene was a devoted sister to Florence Slayton, Ruth Hofler, Barbara Renfrow, and Winnifred Aguilar. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Irene’s family will receive family and friends at Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 403 S. Fourth Avenue, on Tuesday July 25th, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. An additional viewing will take place on Wednesday July 26th, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. to be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 2270 E. Stadium Blvd., Ann Arbor, with Funeral Mass to follow at 11 a.m., and a luncheon afterwards. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the Alzheimers Association and the Great Lakes Caring Home Health & Hospice.
