Herman L. Miller, age 97, of Ann Arbor, Michigan passed away on Monday, June 28, 2021. Herman was born April 23, 1924, in Detroit, Michigan the son of the late Josiah and the late Sadie (nee' Lunden) Miller. He married Dorothy Sack Miller; sadly, she preceded him in death on August 20, 2018. After WWII, serving in the Army Air Corp, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics and Master of Science in Physics degrees from the University of Michigan and was a registered Professional Engineer. Herman developed nuclear instrumentation at the Rocky Flats nuclear plant and at Princeton University's controlled thermonuclear fusion project. He also worked on the Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments at Bendix in Ann Arbor and nuclear power plant engineering at Commonwealth Associates in Jackson. After his retirement he spent summers in Northern Michigan, authored, and published “Lumbering in Early Twentieth-Century Michigan, The Kneeland-Bigelow Company Experience “and” Lewiston in the Lumbering Era Herman also wrote an unpublished biography of "Herman Lunden, Lumberman, and Conservationist" as well as "My Experience in the Army Air Force, 1943-1946." A graveside committal service for Herman will be Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at 12:00 PM with military honors under the auspices of The Gaylord VFW Post 1518 at Fairview Cemetery, Gaylord, Michigan.
