Gary William Haywood lost his hard fought battle with Lewy Body Dementia at the age of 80 on April 4, 2018 at Gilbert Residence in Ypsilanti, MI. He was born on December 23, 1937 in Taylorville, IL to the late William and Ann (Busby) Haywood the oldest of 3 boys. After graduating high school in Taylorville in 1955 he moved with his family to Flint, MI. After a short term at Central Michigan University he enlisted in the US Marine Corp in February 1956. Soon after his discharge in 1958 he was employed at Fisher Body Willow Run in Ypsilanti, MI.
In 1959 he met the love of his life, Pauline Bradley in Flint where they were married on February 20, 1960. They moved to Ypsilanti, MI and started their family. In 1967 he began employment as a Firefighter for the City of Ann Arbor and retired in 1994. He enjoyed playing softball, bowling, golf, and watching his sons and his grandchildren participating in sports. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Pauline Haywood. Daughter, Deborah. Twin brothers, Ronald and Donald Haywood. Daughter in law, Michelle Haywood. Mother in law & Father in law, Anthony and Mary Bradley. Brothers in law, George Fechik, Jerry Irons, Anthony M. Bradley, Donald Bradley, William Bradley, and nephew Douglas Cross.
He leaves to cherish his memory his sons Bradley (Cynthia) and Michael Haywood. His grandson, Ryan (Jessica) Haywood. His granddaughters, Samantha and Emily Haywood.
His sisters in law, Kathleen Haywood, Mary Haywood, Mary (Gene) Cross, Geraldine Irons, Sandra (Robert) Crane, Rosalie (Glen) Bargo, Lorraine (John) Brock and brother in law Thomas (Juanita) Bradley. Uncle David (Nancy) Busby and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 12 pm until the time of the memorial service at 1 pm at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Ann Arbor, MI on Saturday, April 14, 2018.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gilbert Residence of Ypsilanti, MI. The family would like to thank all the staff in Grace Hall at Gilbert Residence for their help with their loving care and support of Gary during his struggle with Lewy Body Dementia.
