Elizabeth Patterson, a woman of intellect, warmth, and passion, passed away on January 28th, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on July 10, 1934, in England, Elizabeth’s journey through life was profoundly impacted by her strong and questioning faith.
Educated in England, Elizabeth’s first venture into the United States was in 1954, accompanying her sister Helen. This initial trip sparked a lifelong connection to the U.S., leading her to permanently settle there in 1961. Her professional endeavors led her to a rewarding 30-year career with Aer Lingus, the Irish International Airline, in New York City where she began as an executive secretary and moved on to the role of Customer Relations Manager for all of North America. Her dedication and expertise left a significant mark.
Upon retirement, Elizabeth generously shared her time and love for the arts. Volunteering at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, where she conducted backstage tours for countless opera enthusiasts. As music and opera were a lifelong love of Elizabeth, her knowledge provided an enriching experience for those participating in the tours.
In 2012, Elizabeth relocated to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to be closer to her family in Canada. Known for her engaging debates and storytelling, Elizabeth found joy in sharing her experiences and wisdom with others. Her participation in the Pittsfield Township Seniors Writers Group gave expression to her creativity and love for literature, mysteries and history. Her favorite authors and poets were GK Chesterton, Yeats, Robert Burns, Rilke.
Despite her aversion to flying, Elizabeth enjoyed extensive traveling to Head Office, Dublin, Ireland,
Airline Customer Relations conferences, vacations and visits to family in England and Scotland.
Elizabeth leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her devoted sisters, Helen Webster of Saline, Michigan, and Patricia Casey of Windsor, Canada, as well as her brother Eddie Patterson of Woodstock, Canada. Additionally, Elizabeth is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-nieces and a great-nephew, plus many cousins. Her sole surviving aunt is 101 year old Ivy Patterson.
She is predeceased by her Father, William Patterson, Mother Margaret (Ferrie) Patterson, Brothers-in-law Duncan Casey and Freddie Webster, and Sister-in-law Veronica Patterson.
In the hearts of those who knew her, Elizabeth’s presence will continue to resonate, a testament of a life lived fully. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A visitation for Elizabeth will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Muehlig Funeral Chapel, located at 403 S 4th Avenue, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48104. Following the visitation, a funeral service will commence at 12:00 PM. Light refreshments will be served thereafter, providing an opportunity for friends and family to gather, share cherished memories, and celebrate Elizabeth’s unique life.
