Born in May of 1936 in Illinois, Betsy was soon after adopted by Bill and Louella Nance. She spent her childhood in the Northern suburbs of Chicago, IL. Betsy enjoyed a wonderful marriage to Jack Mall.
Betsy was a highly intelligent and well-read woman. She received her B.S. in English Literature and Writing from Eastern Michigan University. She worked for many years in marketing, sales, and as a fashion consultant.
Betsy was a phenomenal writer, a true socialite who loved to spend time with family and friends, a cat-lover, and U of M football enthusiast. She had a true passion and talent for sports including golf, skiing, bicycling, swimming, and dancing. Her lifelong dedication to fitness was one she held through the very end. Time with friends was invaluable to Betsy, and with them she enjoyed doing things like going to movies, dining out, and playing bridge. Family was everything to her; she hosted many unforgettable reunions, gatherings, and holidays in her beautiful home. All of those dear to her remember her laughter and lively spirit.
Her love of animals was so deep that she opted for four-day drives to Arizona versus four-hour plane trips to accommodate her cats. She loved all animals from cats to crows and snakes to horses. She contributed and spent many hours volunteering for numerous animal organizations. Her family was never complete without her animal companions.
Betsy also loved to travel with Jack. They spent many winters in Dillon, CO, where they enjoyed skiing. They later spent a number of winters Surprise, AZ, where they enjoyed warm weather and pickleball. Their travels also included trips to Ireland, Alaska, Antarctica, and many other places, but Betsy’s heart was always in Ann Arbor where many of her friends and family lived.
Betsy is survived by her three children, Chuck (Faranak) Drake of Virginia, Beth (Mike) Anthony of Ann Arbor, and Jackie Mall of Port Huron; four grandchildren Jasmine Drake of California, Ramin Drake of Texas, Michael Anthony of Ypsilanti, and Jason Anthony of Ann Arbor; and two cats, Buddy and Gracie of Ann Arbor.
