As the third of nine, eldest sister Carol helped raise many of her younger siblings, even taking them on dates with her and Mike. It was an adventurous household that loved to travel, camp, and enjoy the outdoors throughout Michigan.
Carol graduated from Dexter High School in 1968 and married her beloved husband, Mike at Salem Evangelical Church. After starting a family, Carol returned to school to receive her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Cleary College. Carol worked at U of M, Bechtel, and then went to DTE Energy. There she worked at the FERMI nuclear power plant writing procedures and then finished her career working in the office of the CEO in Downtown Detroit, where she always found good spots to go out for lunch.
Carol and her family enjoyed many trips to Disney World, as it was her son Matthew's favorite place to vacation. They believed in making memories whether there, in Elk Rapids, where they kept a pontoon boat, or just impromptu visits or game nights with family. She and Mike had a great love of food, always finding the best (or interesting?) places to eat out and loved introducing family to their culinary finds. Carol and Mike were doting parents and grandparents. Always supporting Michael’s musical endeavors, Matthew’s love of video games, and everyone’s love of Legos. Nor was there a thing that their grandchildren, Riley and Rianna, ever wanted for when they were around. They showered them in love and laughter, shared their love of Disney, folk music, Bob Seger and so much more! Those special memories vacationing, singing in the car, and splashing in the pool, will live on.
Carol is survived by her son Michael Roy Baker, Jr. (Jennifer Spitler); her grandchildren Riley and Rianna Baker; Her Sisters, Amy Boyle and Ellie Munson; Her Brothers, Roger, John, and Jay Munson.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband Michael Roy Baker, Sr.; her son, Matthew; her parents Robert and Pauline Munson; and Her Brothers Allen, Eddie, and Tom Munson. A celebration of life for Carol will be held Sunday, July 9, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Michael's Home, 6964 Wilson Drive, Dexter, Michigan 48130. Burial of Carol, Mike and Clara Belle’s ashes will occur Monday, July 10, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Washtenong Memorial Park, 3771 Whitmore Lake Rd, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48105.
Carol will be remembered for her sharp wit, quirkiness, and her love of life and family. Most especially it will be remembered how she and Mike lived their lives as a couple, always by each other's side. They loved to take meandering drives to see what they’d find, and where they’d end up, which was typically a new restaurant to eat. She was an avid reader AND the undisputed champion of Dr. Mario on Super Nintendo - nobody in the family could beat her, not even Riley and Rianna. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A special thank you to the staff of Wellbridge-Pinckney for taking care of Carol for the last 5 years. And to Aunt Amy for always being by her side.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.muehligannarbor.com for the Baker family.
