Beverly Smith, 81, passed away peacefully on January 14. She was born Beverly Joan Weyand on September 19, 1932 in Detroit. She attended grammar school in Wayne, Michigan and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Monroe. A 1955 graduate of Marygrove College, Beverly then worked for several years in the business community. On August 4, 1956, she married Robert G. Smith, and together they raised five children in Ann Arbor.
Beverly was a faithful member of St. Thomas Parish, and long active in the St. Thomas Elementary and High School (now Gabriel Richard) serving in many volunteer roles and later as School Board President.
She was employed by the John Leidy Shop where her warm presence and thoughtful considerations were known by many.
As an avid Bridge player, Beverly looked forward to the company of her spirited friends.
Her children and grandchildren were her life’s passion and joy.
Beverly is deeply missed by her beloved sister and best friend Mary Ellen.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert and her parents, Lawrence and Mary Weyand.
She is survived by her sister Mary Ellen Deaunee of Ann Arbor, her children Stephen (Ruth Ann) Smith of Hancock, Michigan Cynthia Goss of Ann Arbor, Sharon (Jeff) Walker of Brighton, Julie (Gary) Robinette of Alpena, and Brian (Monica) Smith of South Bend, Indiana; grandchildren Taite and Carlen Smith, Alyssa and Greg Goss II; niece Kelly Deaunee, nephew Michael (Kim) Deaunee; grandnieces Cayla and Jamie Yuhn, grandnephew Michael Deaunee, step-grandsons Thomas and Matthew Walker, Cameron Hullkonen, Joe Misenar, and step great grandchildren Jenna and Grant Robinette.
Donations honoring Beverly’s life can be made to the St. Thomas Heritage Fund and Marygrove College.
