Richard was born on January 18, 1940 to Forrest Floyd and Vivian Doris (Dimit) Wilson. He graduated from Des Moines Tech High in 1958. Richard was a 24 year veteran of the military, retiring from the Air Force Reserve. After High School, Richard worked in loan finance business. During this time Richard was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Taylor on February 23, 1963 at the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. There were two children to this union, Scott and Wendy. Richard owned and operated several businesses throughout his life selling and installing replacement windows and doors. After closing the window business, he semi-retired and started driving charter buses.
Richard was an avid woodworker and loved shooting sports and reloaded his own ammo. Most of all he dearly loved spending time with his family. He and Patricia took many trips together in their retirement years and there were many family gatherings where the whole family joined each other. Richard was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Ankeny, he was a member of the church choir and sang in a gospel quartet. He was also a longtime member of the Ankeny Community Theater where he used his woodworking skills to design and build sets. He was also known to act in a few plays as well. He was also a member of the Des Moines Aires Barber Shop Chorus and a former member of the Ankeny American Legion Albaugh-McGovern Post 42.
Left to cherish his memory are his two children, Scott Wilson and his wife, Jennie of Ankeny and Wendy Kralik and her husband, Tracy of Pleasant Hill; four grandchildren, Jenna Mae Darling and her husband, Jerad, Taylor Wilson, Emma Kralik and Levi Kralik and his wife, Mariah; four great grandchildren, Jaxon, Jayce and Jolie Darling and Kacen Kralik and his sister, Marilyn Lewallen.
