A visitation will be held Friday, February 17, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at Ankeny Funeral Home (1510 W. First Street, Ankeny IA). A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 18 at 10:30 a.m. at Ankeny Baptist Church followed by a burial at Violet Hill cemetery in Perry, Iowa.
He was born August 6, 1929 in Perry, Iowa. He graduated from Perry High School in 1948, and graduated from Simpson College in Indianola in 1959 with a B.S. in Business Administration.
Richard was a veteran, an airman in the United States Air Force, serving his country from 1951 to 1955.
Richard was employed by the State of Iowa for 31 years. He served as the Deputy Auditor of State and prior to that he was the Director of the Office of Budget and Financial Control for the Iowa Department of Transportation in Ames, Iowa.
He met Jean Seaton at Perry High School. They were married on July 26, 1951. They shared 62 years together before Jean’s passing in 2013.
Richard was an active member of Ankeny Baptist Church since 1966. He and Jean both enjoyed serving and had many lifelong friends within the church. Richard enjoyed woodworking and gardening; but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
Richard is survived by his children David (Julia) Fish, Stephanie Trusty, Daniel (Jessica) Fish; one brother Robert (Donna) Fish; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Richard is preceded in death by his infant son, Stephen Linn Fish; parents Carl and Ethel Fish, his brother Keith Fish, Ronald Atwood his brother-in-law, Joan Atwood his sister-in-law, and Mark Trusty his son- in- law.
Richard’s family would like to extend thanks and praise to the staff at Mill Pond Retirement Community, and Unity Point Hospice.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Ankeny Baptist Church or Intervarsity Christian Fellowship (Mandy Trusty, Richard’s granddaughter will soon be serving college students in Latin America through this organization).
