Rae Carolyn (Garrett) Miller, age 90, of Osceola, Iowa passed away on Friday, June 2, 2023 at the Southern Hills Specialty Care. She was born on August 1, 1932 in Sedalia, Missouri to Ellis and Hannah (Gieschen) Garrett.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at 11:00 am at the New Virginia United Methodist Church, 301 West St, New Virginia, Iowa, 50210. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 9:00 am at the Ankeny Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Ankeny, Iowa.
Rae graduated from Smith Cotton High School in Sedalia in 1950. On November 14, 1954 she was united in marriage to Dale S. Miller in Sedalia, MO and there were two children to this union, Greg and Brian. She was a city girl most of her life, living in Sedalia, Independence and Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri and Spencer and Ankeny, Iowa until 2007. Then she became a country girl settling in rural New Virginia, Iowa. In 2022, she moved the homestead to Osceola, Iowa.
Rae “volunteered” as a bookkeeper for Dale Miller Ford and Complete Travel in Ankeny, Highway 13 Boat Dock in Kimberling City, MO and Dale Miller Chevrolet in Sedalia, MO over the years. Mainly though, she was a homemaker for her family. Rae was an excellent cook and loved to share her recipes with friends and family. She was known to host amazing dinner parties over the years. While with her girlfriends from New Virginia, Rae would find new places to eat and they would visit through the afternoons. She was an accomplished artist and specialized in oil and water color painting, and also china painting. Her various works of art were donated to the New Virginia Library for a fundraiser. Rae enjoyed traveling with her friends and family, she explored the USA and Europe over the years. Most of all, she dearly loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Rae attended and was a member of the United Methodist Church over her whole life. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi for over forty years, the Chattie Hattie Red Hat Club of New Virginia, the New Virginia Garden Club and she volunteered for the Tri Corner Newspaper in New Virginia. Rae was very proud of her work with the Ankeny Welcome Wagon in the mid 70’s.
Rae was preceded in death by her husband of forty four years, Dale S. Miller; parents; sister, Dorothy Alexander and brother in law, Robert Alexander. She is survived by her two sons, Greg (Cindy) Miller and Brian Miller; four grandchildren, Erin Miller, Jordan (Colleen) Miller, Hannah Miller and Amanda Miller; two great grandchildren, Ivory and Landon Miller; sister in law, Sandra Miller and several nieces and nephews.
