Leona Reich was born to Marion Rudzinski, Sr. and Alice Rudzinski (Ksiazewski) on October 17, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA. While Leona and her future husband Bill both attended Frankford High School and at one point lived across the street from one another, Leona met Bill on the Frankford Elevated Train when she was commuting to work and he to Drexel University.
Leona married Bill on September 5, 1953, and they soon moved to Bensalem, Pennsylvania, where they resided until late 2020. After Bill’s passing, Leona moved to Mill Pond in Ankeny, IA, and lived near her daughter.
Leona loved and was extraordinarily skilled at working with children. She was a devoted Sunday School Teacher for many years and served with the Bensalem Police Department and Bensalem School District as a Crossing Guard. Leona was a faithful member of Peace Lutheran Church in Bensalem and enjoyed activities with the women’s group. She loved being with her family, taking care of her home and garden, reading, and working on her iPad.
Leona was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Marion Rudzinski, Jr.; her sisters Marian Pontoriero, Elsie Schumann, and Alice Kazmierski; and by her husband William Charles Reich, Sr. She is survived by her sister Elaine Tomczak (husband Ben); her daughter Cheryl Lee Reich (husband Michael Bohnenkamp); her son William Charles Reich, Jr. (wife Janell); and grandsons Brett William Reich and Tyler James Reich.
Leona passed away surrounded by family on May 26th at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. She was 90 years old. Services and interment will be private.
In place of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Leona’s name to the PA Breast Cancer Coalition.
