Joanne F. Smith Bloodgood, 93, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada, Iowa. Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Stevens Memorial Chapel (607 28th St. Ames, IA 50010).
Joanne was born April 24, 1924, in Minneapolis, MN, to John and Helen (Rodgers) Carey. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis. Joanne was united in marriage to William Carson Smith on November 15, 1943, and they welcomed six children. The family relocated to Nevada, IA in 1965 and they owned The Broaster in town until they sold it in 1972. Carson passed away in 1982. Joanne was married to George Bloodgood on January 3, 1987 (passed away 1999). The remainder of Joanne’s career was working as a senior service representative for Iowa Power and Light until her retirement in 1985.
Joanne was a member of Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Church in Ankeny, where she sang in the church choir for many years. She also sang in Sweet Adeline’s choir group and enjoyed sewing in her free time.
Joanne is survived by her children: Gerald (Linda) Smith, Larry (Jodi) Smith, Nancy (Curt) Zeisneiss and Bradley (Becky) Smith, son-in-law, Gene Welsh and George Bloodgood and Bonnie Bloodgood, 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren and extended family members. She is preceded in death by an infant son, Gordon; daughter, Barbra; husbands, parents and siblings.
