Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ankeny Funeral Home, 1510 West First Street, Ankeny, Iowa 50023. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at the funeral home. There will be a time of food and fellowship immediately following the service at the funeral home.
Joan was born on September 28, 1939 in St Louis, Missouri. She married Levi Lewis Sr. and they raised seven children. She was later remarried to Theodore Hill in 1993. Joan worked over 25 years as a hospitality and housekeeping supervisor.
She took immense pride in her work and cared deeply about her work family many of whom became lifelong friends. Joan had a passion for shopping, cooking, bargain hunting, and playing Bingo. She loved music and dancing.
Joan moved to Iowa in the fall of 2017 to be closer to family. She quickly made new friends and acquaintances. She enjoyed concerts, church outings, casino trips, and senior center lunches. Joan would never miss an opportunity to go shopping or be taken out to eat. She was meticulously prepared with her pressed and pristine wardrobe, makeup applied, nails painted, and hair styled. She treasured her time with her family and loved when they came together to barbeque or cook. She was blessed to recently celebrate her 85th birthday with her children, grandchildren great-grandchildren, siblings, and friends.
Joan was preceded in death by grandparents Callie and David Spates; parents, Carrie Henderson and Leon Parks; brothers, Lawrence “Sony” Mallory and Clyde “Buddy” Mallory Jr; sister, Kathleen “Lois” Harmison; ex-husband, Levi Lewis Sr; husband, Theodore R. Hill; son, Darryl Lewis Sr, and grandson, Darryl Lewis Jr.
Joan is survived by sisters, Janice March, Beverly (Milton) McGee, Karen Anderson, Lisa Henderson, and Sheri Henderson; brother, Louis “Gregory” (Elsa) Henderson Jr; sister in law, Yvonne Mallory; sons, Levi Lewis Jr, Richard Lewis, Michael Lewis, and Brian (Joan) Lewis; daughters, Marsha Lewis and Linda Lewis; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins, and friends.
