Ivan “Mick” Parsons, 84, of Polk City, Iowa died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. Mick was born in Chariton, Iowa on August 24, 1939 to parents Claude and Louise (Sharp) Parsons.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at the Ankeny Funeral Home, 1510 West First Street, Ankeny, Iowa 50023. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the Funeral Home.
Ivan, known as Mick to his friends, moved to Des Moines as a young child and grew up in the Highland Park Area. He graduated from Tech High School, and after completing a tool and dye apprenticeship, he landed a job at John Deere Ankeny Works where he worked for over 30 years.
Mick met and subsequently married the love of his life Lonnie Proctor on August 8, 1957. They were blessed with three children: Steve (Marlene), Tammy (Michael Ernest) Shattuck and Bobby (Cathy). Mick enjoyed many hobbies in his lifetime, including racing in motorcycle enduros, skiing, boating, RV traveling, and building and flying radio controlled airplanes. He and Lonnie also enjoyed many fun times at their winter home in Naples, FL.
Mick is survived by his wife and children, grandsons: Mick (Libby) Parsons, Troy Parsons, Alex (Crystal) Parsons, Devan (Danielle) Parsons, and Brandon (Ashley) Parsons; 6 great-grandchildren; step-sisters Sheri Ivey, Marcia Burbank and Chris Warrington and many other loving family members and friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Promedica Hospice for the exceptional care and support they provided for both Mick and his family.
