Isaac James Berthelsen

Isaac had been diagnosed with Pallister-Killian Mosaic Syndrome and a congenital diaphragmatic hernia during the second trimester which was further complicated by his unexpected arrival at 31 weeks gestational age. Isaac received the sacrament of Baptism May 28th at 2:30pm in the NICU. He fought for life bravely as he received excellent care from the skilled doctors, nurses, and professionals in the Mercy NICU, but his underdeveloped lungs gave out after 34 hours.

His parents are sad to lose their son so soon but are grateful for the time they spent with Isaac and will carry him in their hearts always.

Isaac is survived by his parents Andrew & Amy Berthelsen of Bondurant; paternal grandparents Eric and Deborah Berthelsen of Ames; maternal grandparents Ron and Renee Sibbel of Vail; aunts and uncles Anne Berthelsen of Marshalltown, Tracy & William Swalwell of Johnston, Lori & Jared Christ of Granger; cousins Emma and Bennett Christ of Granger; and great-grandmother Flora Sibbel of Carroll. He was preceded in death by his uncle Greg Sibbel; and great-grandparents Claude & Helen Davis, James & Mary Lou Berthelsen, Galen & Betty Schwery, Ray Sibbel.
