Edward Michael Keefe, age 72, entered his eternal reward March 21, 2011 at Methodist Hospital with his wife, Helen, at his side. The son of Edward J. Keefe and Loretta Barry of Clinton, Iowa, attended St. Ambrose University, Davenport, Iowa and obtained a degree in Philosophy. He continued his education at the University of Colorado in Boulder with a masters in Physics. While in Colorado, Ed became involved with the Charismatic Renewal and brought the movement to the Newman Center in Iowa City. Eventually he came to Ankeny where he was employed at DMACC for 27 years. While working in the Counseling Department, Ed developed “An Introduction to Rational Self-Counseling,” slide presentation with slides he drew himself. He also started the Fast-Aid Company which assisted businesses in writing software for their specific needs, as well as authoring several computer manuals.
On August 23, 1979, he married Helen Westbrooke of Joliet, IL. They have enjoyed many years together in Ankeny each using his/her talents to serve the parishioners at OLIH.
As years passed, his enthusiasm for the Charismatic Renewal never waned. He continued to read and maintain contact with other Charismatics around the world via the internet. Ed was also very active in his own parish, Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart in Ankeny, as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, 7th grade religious education instructor, participant in Christian Experience weekends and he was a Eucharistic Minister and took communion weekly to the Catholic patients in Lutheran Hospital. He led monthly prayer services at Mill Pond and assisted at funerals. Aside from his church related activities, Ed worked out at the Accel Fitness Center every day. He had a gift of being personable with everyone and will be deeply missed by many, many people.
Ed is survived by his wife, Helen; two brothers: Barry (Judy) of Cleveland, OH, and Tom (Diane) of Windsor CO; and eight nieces and nephews: Kerry, Kevin, Katie, Kelly, Kristin, Darren, Matthew and Meghan.
A Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, March 28 at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Church. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Sunday, with a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. at OLIH Church.
