John was born on February 12, 1940 in Hazlehurst, Mississippi. John was the 2nd of six children born to Ed and Allie Mae (Johnson) Anderson. After graduating high, John received a degree in Psychotherapy from George Williams College in Chicago. John worked as a counselor for the YMCA and then went on to receive a degree in Divinity as an ordained minister from Unity Village in Lee’s Summit, MO. John ran this own physiotherapy clinic from 1976-1995 and was a Unity minister in Missouri from 1967 until his retirement in 2014.
John married Patricia Ann Perry on December 25, 1964, to this union one daughter, Stephanie was born. They divorced in 1972. John married Norma Randolph who predeceased him in 1994.
John moved to Ames in 2011 to help take care of his grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie (Wayne) Imhoff and grandchildren, Colin and Sarah Imhoff.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Robert, Joe, Will, Jesse and Ruth.
As a teacher at Unity Village he was respected and greatly loved by his students. When he moved to Ames, he became “Grandpa John” to the friends of his grandchildren and was known by the children and their parents as loyal and fierce fan of this grandchildren and their friends.
John loved education and children, especially giving a hand up to children in need, consider a donation to your local Youth and Shelter Service.
