Frieda Thomas, age 90, passed away on December 20, 2024. A funeral service will be held on January 4, 2025 at 12:00 pm at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames, Iowa. A visitation will held one hour prior from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm. Burial will be held at Ames Municipal Cemetery in Ames, Iowa immediately following the service.
Frieda May Thomas Ingram sought to love the Lord with all her heart. She knew there is hope in only one Lord, and blessed others by sharing the truth of Jesus in love and grace.
Frieda was born on December 8, 1934 in Worth County, Missouri, near Grant City. Her parents were Elva Alfred Thomas and Eunice Dale Weddle Thomas. She had two sisters and three brothers; Bobbie Alfred Thomas, Burton Hale Thomas, Doyle Lee Thomas, Ramona Fay Thomas, Leona Kay Thomas Kennard. Frieda was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters.
She attended Grant City High School. Frieda won three varsity letters in volleyball. She met her husband, the late Melvin Eugene Ingram, at the roller skating rink in Grant City. Frieda and Mel were married on June 23, 1955 in Grant City. She had four sons, Thomas Lee Ingram (Jeanette), James Edward Ingram (Kathleen), Timothy Eugene Ingram (Beth) and John Dennis Ingram (Andrea). She has eight grandchildren: Laura Kittinger (Seth Kittinger), Matthew (Katie), Nicholas (Ashley), Rachel Wolf (Sam Wolf), Jacque, Spencer, Elijah (Emma), and Gabriel. Frieda was blessed with eight great grandchildren: Leila, Ransom, Evelyn, Miles, Graham, Oliver, Silas, and Daisy. Her special grandchildren include Tanya Trimborn, Tre’ Mutava, and Ryan Mutava.
After marriage, the couple moved to Centerville, Iowa, where Mel ran the PM Place store. They then moved to Ames, where they operated an insurance agency from their home. Frieda was a licensed cosmetologist, State Farm secretary and active in her church in many roles. She enjoyed golf, bowling, and bible studies. In later years, she enjoyed her grandchildren, loved music and entertaining on the bass guitar in nursing homes, senior citizen centers and RV parks near Mission, Texas. She wintered in Texas from 1993 - 2020. In her recent years, Frieda resided at Windsor Manor in Nevada, Iowa.
