Barbara Gene Peterson, 66, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at her home in Ames. Barbara was born August, 31, 1958 to Donald Gene Peterson and Patricia Earlene Peterson (Bachman) in Ames, Iowa.
A Visitation for Barbara will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Stevens Memorial Chapel, 607 28th Street, Ames, Iowa 50010. Graveside Services will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Ames Municipal Cemetery, 310 E 9th St, Ames, IA 50010, with Pastor James Russell officiating. Following Barbara’s Graveside Services, a Celebration of Life and time of food and fellowship will be held at 12:45 p.m. at Brookside Park at the Hickory Shelter, 1325 6th St, Ames, IA 50010.
Barbara Gene attended Ames High School and later she obtained her GED in 1983. She was untied in marriage to Jerry Roney in 1976 in Jewell, Iowa. There was one child born to this union, Jamey Lee Roney. The couple later divorced. Barbara worked with her first husband, Jerry Roney, selling produce at Fruit Market in Story City and surrounding areas in Iowa and, Rogers, Arkansas. Barbara also worked for the Hillbilly flea market right by her parents and siblings side for years. Later, she worked as a Maid at Starlight Village in Ames and various nursing homes in the Ames area. Barbara also worked in the laundry service in Huxley. She deeply loved spending time with her family and she was the care taker for them as well. Barbara was always looking out for the needs of her family members. She was a caring and loving person who would give her last penny to those in need. Barbara was the definition of unconditional love to those who knew her.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Donald Gene Peterson and Patricia Earlene Peterson (Bachman); her brother, Gary Peterson; her sister, Donna Brighton; her great granddaughter, Peyton, and her great grandson, Sawyer.
Barbara was survived by her son, Jamey Lee Roney and his wife, Sara; her eight grand-children, Nicole Roney (Tanner Stites), Paige Roney, Emma (Clayton) Henn, Brock Roney, Carson Lawson, Bodie Roney, Leven Fergerson, and Mia Roney; her four great grand-children, Jaxon, Noveigha, Brock MaeLeigh, and Marshall; her ex-husband, Jerry Roney; brother, Larry Peterson & his wife, Kris Peterson, sister, Melonie Dwyer and her significant other, Lyle Clabaugh, sister, Terry Cripe and her husband, Dan Cripe, brother, Bob Thomas and his wife, Robin Thomas, sister, Diane Price and her husband, Bob Price, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Peterson Family in loving memory of Barbara.
