Sostenes Gomez Jr

Sostenes Gomez Jr passed away surrounded by his loving family on September 2, 2023 in Amarillo. Visitation will be held Wednesday September 6, 2023 from 4-7 pm at Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors 5400 Bell St. Funeral service will be held Thursday, September 7 at 10 am at Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. He was born January 17, 1937 in Cuervo, New Mexico to Sostenes Gomez Sr and Vicenta. He was the youngest of nine children. He attended school in Santa Rosa and Springer, New Mexico where he was a running back in football. After high school he proudly joined and served in the United States Navy from 1956-1960. He met his late wife Priscilla in Springer, New Mexico they later married Albuquerque, New Mexico on July 17, 1960. They were married for 41 wonderful years.

He worked as a surveyor in New Mexico, then moved to Texas to work as a construction worker with R.C. Freeman, Willy Hicks and Paige and Associates. He then retired from construction and started his career with AISD as a groundskeeper for 25 years. After retiring he moved back to New Mexico where he met his wonderful companion, Ms. Julia Zamora they spent 16 wonderful years together.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Pricilla Gomez, brothers Vincent and Ralph Gomez. Sisters Lucy Chavez, Delores Ortiz, Ramona Solano, Mary Sisneros and Frances Lopez along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Patsy Cabello, Luella Coronado and husband Albert, Edna Gomez, Debbie Griego, Denna Lopez and husband Rey and his son Donnie Gomez and wife Monica. Ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his companion Julia and her children and grandchildren.
