Celebration of life service will be held on Friday May 26, 2023 at 11:00 am at Lake Tanglewood Community Church.
Roy was born October 12th, 1943 in Santa Maria, California to Finace and Neva Dyer. Finace was serving in WWII at the time and Neva had gone to stay with relatives. When the good Lord brought Finace home from the war the family moved back to Texas. Roy's version was "When I got big enough to walk, I made my way to Texas." Roy grew up in Pampa riding horseback to school, helping his dad with all odd jobs, getting into mischief with buddies and attending Church on Sundays with his parents. Roy attended Pampa High School and was a lifelong Harvester fan.
Roy learned the value of hard work from his parents. He started a family and worked many jobs; Sears, selling background music, selling cookware, painting houses with his Dad to name a few. In 1967 Finace, Neva and Roy began Dyer's Bar-B-Que and Steakhouse on Hwy. 60 in Pampa. They built an amazing business through hard work, a fair value and treating everyone, both customers and employees, like family.
In 1984 Roy and his dad opened Roy Dyer's Bar-B-Que Inc. in Amarillo to diversify from the oil crash affecting Pampa. Applying the same core principles Roy and wife Christy were blessed to operate the Amarillo Dyer's for several decades, making many friends along the way. Roy's hard work was an inspiration for many of the young people who worked with him, including the 4th generation BBQ man Nick Dyer. Roy had so much peace and joy knowing he left the restaurant under Nick's watchful eye.
In the 1990's Bill Countiss and Wiley Hicks Jr. invited Roy to join The Amarillo Executive Association. The value of the friendships he made over the years was a cherished possession for Roy. The "table of knowledge" was his favorite fellowship spot.]
Roy loved his family, hard work, the Lord and anywhere that had a beach. Roy and Christy were blessed to have many travel adventures; Hawaii, California, Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Nassau, St. John, Costa Rica, and Alaska to name a few. You can be assured that Roy has his toes in the sand and eyes on sparkling water in his latest adventure.
Roy is preceded in death by Parents Finace and Neva Dyer, 25 Aunts and Uncles and first wife Betty Dyer.
