He was a graduate of Amarillo High School Class of 1956. On March 24, 1961, he married the love of his life Alverna Ruth Christman. They celebrated 52 years of marriage before she passed away on December 18, 2013. He enjoyed coaching, watching and supporting his kids in sports and all their activities. Bob enjoyed rollerskating (where he met Ruth), dancing, square dancing, playing his bagpipes, painting, woodworking and watching the Lady Buff basketball games. He was a member of South Georgia Baptist Church where he and Ruth were members of the Son-Shiners. He was also a member of the High Plains Scottish Heritage Society. Of all his activities, he showed that his faith and his family were the most important things in his life. He loved to support his grandkids in everything they did whether it was in band, soccer, track, basketball or church activities.
He his preceded in death by his parents Merrill and Lucille McLain, his wife Ruth McLain, his sisters Winnifred “Bennie” Flowers, Lorene Carter and Betty Docherty, brother Merrill T. McLain, Jr., and grandchild Stormy Hofmann.
He is survived by sons Robert H. McLain and wife Connie of Channing, TX, and Chris McLain and wife Elizabeth of Katy, TX, daughter Robyn Hofmann of Amarillo, TX, brothers Larry McLain and wife Louise of Perryton, TX and Gail McLain and his wife Billie of Houston, TX, sister Patsy McLain of Onalaska, TX, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
