Lola Mae King, age 93, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2023. Memorial services are scheduled for 10am, Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel.
Lola Mae King was born on a farm near Marysville, Kansas on September 30, 1929, to Harry and Alice Thompson. Lola graduated from Waterville High School in 1947. She married William W. "Bill King on June 14, 951, in Abilene, Texas. They relocated to Amarillo when Bill was hired by the Texas Employment Commission. Lola retired from the City of Amarillo after many years of service. Bill passed away in 1989. Following his death, Lola spent many years with a special friend, Noman Malcolm until his passing. Lola loved to travel, including trips to Hawaii, Florida, and the northeast for fall leaf season. She also loved to cruise, going to several locations in Mexico, thru the Panama Canal and to Alaska. After her retirement, she enjoyed water aerobics, line dancing, bingo, and playing hand & foot with a special group of ladies.
Those who preceded her in death include her husband, Bill; special friend, Norman; her brothers, Harry Thompson and Roy Thompson; her sisters, Rose Lemmons and Nela Runkle; nephews, Larry Lemmons and Bobby Kachiros; and nieces, Sandra Thompson and Mary Carder.
Lola is survived by her sisters, Georgia Kachiros and Dora Feck; brother, Tom Thompson; nephews, David Thompson, Steve Thompson, Mike Thompson, Joe Thompson, Terry Lemmons, Pete Kachiros, Robert Arquello, Tom Feck, and Ken Feck; Nieces, Karen Patterson, Diane Keen, Linda Runkle, Christina Thompson, Elva Whetstone, and Suzanne Roman; many great-nieces and great-nephews.
