Frances Johnson, 92, danced through the gates of Heaven on February 24, 2024. Frances (Frankie) was born to Ella and Dan McCabe in Fort Worth, Texas, on July 29,1931. Frances attended school in Greggton, Texas. Her family moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma when she was a senior. She graduated from Shawnee High in 1950. After graduating, Frances attended business school, then went to work for Sylvania Electric in Shawnee.
In 1952, she married the love of her life, Frank Johnson. They married at Sharon Baptist Church in Shawnee. Frank was in the US Army, and they moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas. Frank later went to work for Remington Rand in Dallas. In 1957, they were transferred to Las Cruces. In 1970, they moved to Amarillo. Frances worked for Northwest Texas Hospital for twenty-five years. Frank owned a small apartment complex and rental houses.
Frances was dedicated to her family. She cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also cherished her faith and ensured that her children attended Sunday school and church. Frances loved reading, going to the movies, having coffee with her friends, and entertaining. As a mother she was kind, loving, generous and happy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sister Loretta Owen and her three brothers, James, Teddy and Danny.
Survivors include son John Johnson of Hobbs, daughter Jennifer Drennan and son-in-law Brett Drennan. Two grandchildren, Terra Pate (Jason) of Bedford, Texas, and Zachary Drennan of Hobbs. Also, two wonderful great grandsons, Ty and Trace of Bedford. She left a very special niece Sara Owen of McKinney, Texas, and a special sister-in-law Josie Strong of Grand Haven, Michigan.
A combined service for Frank and Frances will be held Monday, March 4, 2024 at 1:00pm. Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery 6969 East Interstate 40 Amarillo, Texas.
In lieu of flowers the family would greatly appreciate a donation to Amazing Grace Pet Rescue, 4008 N. Grimes, Hobbs, New Mexico.
