Cody Cowden, 67 of Amarillo passed away December 1, 2014. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel with Pastor Jerry Davey officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell. Cody retired from the Texas Highway Department, where he worked as a mechanic and a purchasing agent. He didn’t enjoy staying home after retirement so he went to work for Auto Zone, ASCO, and was currently working at O’Reilly Auto Parts. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, cooking, and being with family, but above all he loved spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. He served his country in 1966 and was stationed in Fort Sill. He was athletic and loved playing softball, where he also umpired softball games. Each year he would make a trip to Michigan to see his sister Hazel. He also stayed in touch with his fellow retires by having brunch once a month. Cody was preceded in death by his parents: Codie and Carrie Mae Cowden; brother James F. Cowden; sister Violet Guyette. He is survived by his girlfriend of 18 years: Pat Southern; 2 daughters Brandi Sandoval and Amanda Cowden of Amarillo; brothers, James H. Stone and wife Boots of McLean and Steve Cowden and wife Marylou of Amarillo; sisters, Hazel Peters of Vulcan, Michigan and Dixie McElreath and husband Mike of Amarillo; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; also by many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.
