Clarence Ray Roberts, 77, of Amarillo passed away on Thursday, December 8th, 2022 with his loving wife and family by his side. Arrangements are under the direction of Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral home.
Ray was born in Plainview, Texas on September 27th, 1945 on a dairy farm to Bobbie and Calloway Roberts. He lived in Amarillo all of his life. On August 10th, 1963 he married the love of his life Gaylene with whom he recently celebrated their 59th anniversary. He worked as an independent distributor for the Bordens milk company from 1972-1992 until he opened Frontier Motors, the car lot which he would eventually pass on to his son Michael in 2017. Ray spent his life working hard and raising a wonderful family, with who he took every chance he had to create long lasting memories, together they would go gambling, go to the horse races, and go out on the lake listening to good ‘ol country music. He spent every Saturday night at family night out in the shop playing shuffleboard and spending time with his loved ones. You could always find him in a pearl snap shirt tucked into pressed wranglers and ostrich boots dancing to Long Line of Love, a song which will continue to represent the legacy passed through his family by him and his wife.
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Bobbie Roberts; sisters Jean Clark, Francis Lester, Winnie Roberts; brothers, Wayne Roberts, LD Burney, and Ronnie Roberts; brother in law Johnny Rogers; bonus son-in-law Jammy Murray and great grandson William Potts
Survivors include his wife Gaylene of the home; daughter, Sheila Hoffman and husband Jimmy which he also considered a son; sons, Michael Roberts, wife Danielle, and ex-wife Stephanie Murray, Justin Reeves and wife Misty and Puppy; sisters Sue Price and husband Lloyd, Bert Rickman, Jo Dysart and sister in law Becky Langham and husband Tommy; brother in law Jimmy Rogers and wife Betty; and lifelong friend/brother Jerry Elton.
Survivors also include an abundance of loving family and friends, among these are nephew Brother and niece Savanna, and 15 grandchildren as follow: Kristen Johnson, Kayra Bellville and husband Andrew, Kelsea Potts and husband Matt, Heyboy Hoffman and wife Bessie, Sydney Roberts, Jade Reeves, Jayden “Brat” Murray, Taylor Murray, Kenzie Roberts, Megan Roberts, Rylee Reeves, and little Michael Roberts ; and 13 great grandchildren.
