Charles Franklin Sturgeon was born in Sikeston, Missouri on September 25, 1923.
He graduated from Sikeston High School in 1942. He joined the Army Air Corps on February 3, 1943 and met his first wife, Adelle while in training in Amarillo, Texas. He served in World War II as a B-17 engineer specialist and top turret gunner, was captured, and turned 21 in a Prisoner of War camp. He was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries received as he was being captured. He returned home June 21, 1945 and returned to Amarillo after a week to ask Adelle to marry him. They were married on August 4, 1945 and they had five children together. Adelle passed away on November 12, 1976 and Charles had to continue raising their children on his own while working at Pantex. He met his wife, Theresa, in 1982 and accepted her seven kids as his own. He retired from Pantex in 1989 after 32 years with them.
