Carolyn was born in Little Rock Arkansas to Robert Carroll and Gladys Harris on January 26, 1931. The family relocated to Wichita Kansas where Carolyn graduated from East High School. Upon graduating she married her high school sweetheart Kenneth “Dutch” Hurst. Shortly after their wedding they moved to Arnett Oklahoma where they had 2 children. In 1962 a job transfer sent them to Amarillo Texas where they finished raising their children.
She is survived by her son Daryl (Gloria) Hurst, her daughter Cheryl (Dave) Lojewski; grandchildren Jenifer Lash, Summer (Forrest) Fidler, Randy (Nicole) Lojewski and Kenneth Hurst; great grandchildren Katherine, Samantha, Angela, Autumn, Aria and Coatney; sister Juanita Driver of Belton Texas.
She is predeceased by husbands Kenneth Hurst, Floyd Segler, and Ike Folks; and her brother Durwood Harris of Little Rock Arkansas.
Carolyn worked for the Amarillo Independent School District as a cafeteria worker at Lamar elementary and then as a cafeteria manager at Avondale elementary. She then pursued a different career path as a professional seamstress sewing drapes for several interior designers in Amarillo. She and her first husband, Kenny, were active with several square dancing clubs in Amarillo where she made many lifelong friends. They also loved “Jeeping” in the Colorado mountains for vacations.
After retiring from her drapery business, she spent her time gardening, painting, crafting and spending time with her family & friends. Carolyn was known for celebrating Christmas every year in a big way for the children and grandchildren. In her later years, she loved to play Bingo and enjoyed socializing with her neighbors.
Her life was filled with love, both given and received by many extended family and friends. She will be missed by many. The family is having a private service.
