Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with the Rev Max Beggs officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40.
Betty was born Dec. 14, 1931, in Exeter, Mo., to John and Mary Johnson Hooten. Her family moved to Amarillo when she was 2 or 3 years old. She attended Summit Elementary School, Sam Houston Jr. High School and Amarillo High School. Her father, John Hooten, was killed in a tragic traffic accident when she was 4 years old. A few years later, her mother married George William “Bill” Stanley. He became a loving father to Betty and her brother Bill Gene. She married Bill D. Upchurch on June 3, 1950. They raised three children, Marilyn, Darlene and Jack.She loved to read, quote and enjoy poetry and scriptures and old westerns on TV.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Hooten; her mother, Mary Stanley; her stepdad, Bill Stanley; her husband, Bill D Upchurch; and a brother, Bill Gene Hooten. Survivors include a son, Jack Upchurch and wife Becky of Arlington; two daughters, Marilyn Moody and husband David and Darlene Wade and husband Norman, all of Amarillo; six grandchildren Benjamin Wade, Joshua Moody and wife Rian, Nicholas Wade and wife Kristen, Nathaniel Moody, Whitney Campbell, Caleb Upchurch and wife Kate; seven great-grandchildren Abigail, Allison, Ansley, Madeline, Miles, Malachi, and June ; a brother in-law, Michael Upchurch; a sister in-law, Marilyn Hooten; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
