Raymond S. Valley (70) of Longwood, FL, passed away on February 29, 2024. Ray, known as Mr. Valley to his students, was born in Natick, MA, and a very proud graduate of SUNY Oneonta, NY, with a master's degree from SUNY Brockport, NY. He enjoyed sharing his love of history during his long career as a middle and high school teacher. Many will remember him for his signature cowboy hat and boots that he never left home without. In his retirement, Ray very often had his camera either around his neck or in front of his face; he was always ready to capture life's special moments and anything he found interesting or beautiful.
Ray is survived by his six children and son-in-law; four grandchildren; two sisters; two aunts; and cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Albina and Sylvio "Ray" Valley.
Aside from his love of photography and history, Ray had a great sense of adventure. He was always willing to "go along for the ride" and enjoyed cross-country road trips. Ray was immensely proud of all his children and loved to hear about their accomplishments and travels both before and after he could no longer travel himself. His most recent time was spent reading about history's great adventures and learning about the new "last frontier" - outer space. He will be greatly missed by many, but there's consolation knowing he's on his greatest adventure of all, the afterlife.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Annunciation Catholic Church, Altamonte Springs, FL. Ray will be interred at All Faiths Memorial Park, Casselberry, FL, following the mass, and a celebration of life will commence after the interment in Winter Park, FL. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Ray's name to www.HarborPath.org, an organization providing life-saving medication to people in need.
