Early in the morning on May 5, 2024, Eddie Nelson Guillet, the oldest son of Ramon Guillet Rios and Primitiva Cordero Silva, passed away at age 77. A proud Boricua, he was born in Rincon Puerto Rico on September 9, 1946. His family moved to the US, and chose to call New York City, New York home.
Answering his nation’s call with a profound sense of duty, he enlisted in the Marine Corps on April 9, 1966, during the Vietnam War. Eddie rose to the rank of Corporal (E-4) with his dedication to the Marine Corp, his fellow Marines and his country. A testament to his proficiency and expertise as a Marine earned him a special jungle training patch in Panama as well as a sharpshooter metal. During his service in Vietnam, Eddie was wounded in combat and received two purple hearts for his bravery and valor.
Moving from New York City to Florida, in 1981, he provided for his family as a postal worker where he eventually retired after 18 years of service.
He was predeceased by his parents, brother Joaquin, and his beloved son Eric Marc.
He is survived by his daughter’s Jeanette Denise, Allyson Marie, and Renee Angelique, his granddaughters Shaianne and Arieanna, his siblings Irma, Carmen, Violet, Raymond, Iris, and Maria, along with nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was a father of 4, having his first two children with Marina Guillet and his youngest two with Elizabeth Guillet. To his children he was “troupe leader” for every family adventure. He was strong and in charge, from the family vacations that incorporated US historical sites to camping trips in the Carolinas. One of the first adventures of learning to camp will forever be with his children as the camper almost tipped over from not realizing it needed to be stabilized on both ends.
Memories of him include his pride and bond with his military veterans, especially his brother in arms, Miguel Valdes; his love of playing dominos; jamming to salsa music with his brother in-law Uncle Tal; teaching his youngest girls how to take care of their first vehicles; the constant suggestion to his oldest daughter to have a “water dogs” for lunch; hanging out with his nephew Michael Rios combing his Winter Springs complex with a metal detector knowing he was going to strike it rich but finding only coins, and so many more memories that will forever be etched in those that knew him.
If you were in his circle of trust, he bloomed in front of you, showing a beautiful side to his soul not many got to see. He will be deeply missed by those he left behind.
His memorial service will be Monday May 13, 2024, from 2pm to 7pm EST at Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home 994 E Altamonte Drive, Altamonte Springs Florida, 32701. A USMC military honor and flag folding ceremony will be presented between 4pm and 5pm.
