Clarence "Ray" Raymond Boden was born on November 17, 1931 in Wharton, Ohio and passed away at his home in Winter Springs, Florida on March 21, 2019 at the age of 87 after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in passing by his wife Mary Esther Elliott Boden, as well as by their son Joel Paul Boden. He is survived by his son John E. Boden (Sherri) and daughter Paula Ann Boden Thompson (Harry), three siblings, seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Special mention is made of the family's lifelong friend Dottie Scogin.
Ray enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17 and retired after serving for 20 years. He was assigned to the Army Corps of Engineers and skills learned there, such as heavy equipment operation, mechanics and construction, were used the remainder of his life. He saw war time service once in Korea and twice in Vietnam, where he received the Bronze Star.
He met and married Mary Esther in 1951 and together they raised their family while coping with the separations and many moves which are part of military life. In their retirement they enjoyed travelling in their RVs, especially visiting family around the country. They also made many trips to the Cayman Islands to spend time with Paula and her family.
Special thanks is given to his son John and daughter-in-law Sherri for the wonderful care they
provided, which allowed him to stay at home until his demise.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 29, 2019 from 11 a.m. to noon at Baldwin Fairchild East Altamonte Chapel, 994 E. Altamonte Dr, Altamonte Springs, Florida. A remembrance service will be held at noon, followed by interment at Highland Memory Gardens, Apopka, Florida.
