Ada was born on August 7, 1927, in Missaukee Co., Michigan, to Bert and Tjabiena (Stryker) Jager. She spent her childhood playing with siblings, helping with chores, and going to school. Ada met Henry “Hank” Louwsma at church and they were married on January 12, 1951. They raised their family on a crop farm in Brown City, Michigan. Ada cleaned banks and churches to help with finances. They moved to Florida in 1970.
Ada began working in a local elementary school kitchen, feeding 600 students and staff. In order to become Food Service Manager, Ada went back to school and passed the GED. Her lunchroom was known for having the best food in the county. This was one of her proudest accomplishments. She retired after 20 years.
As her children got older, some of the best family times were around the kitchen table: home-cooked meals, conversations, card games, and laughter. She always had time for an unannounced drop-in. Out came the pie and coffee, and it was as if time stood still.
Ada enjoyed playing the piano and organ. She had a beautiful singing voice. Her favorite hymn was “What A Friend We Have in Jesus.” Her faith inspired her to live her life with kindness and compassion.
Most of all, Ada loved her family and instilled in them strong values that have served them well. “Best Mom Ever” to four daughters and two sons, awesome grandma to seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She will live forever in our hearts.
