CRIMMINS JOHN DAVID CRIMMINS Mechanical Engineer John David Crimmins, 59, died suddenly on October 26, 2011, while repairing masonry at an investment property in Arlington, VA. He was born October 1, 1952 in New York City. He lived in Alexandria, VA. He attended public schools in Queens, New York and he earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at The City College of New York. He worked as a mechanical engineer in Buffalo, NY and Chicago, before moving to Washington, DC in 1984, where he worked at the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) until early 2010. He met his future wife, Monica Sims, a real estate agent, while inspecting 50 houses throughout Northern Virginia. His second career was as "handyman'' to the couple's investment properties, as well as the homes of his extended family, friends, neighbors and wife's clients. He sang bass in the St. Louis Catholic Church choir, served on the parish's building committee, and maintained his manly physique through hard work and yoga. He enjoyed playing his guitar and summers at the beach, and was an avid reader. He revelled in fatherhood and his father-daughter drive-time to his two daughters' many activities throughout Northern Virginia. In addition to Monica, he is survived by his daughters, Emily of Springfield, VA and Bess of Alexandria,VA; his mother, Marion Crimmins of Boulder, CO; and sisters, Susan (Paolo) Narduzzi of Eagle, CO and Anne (Richard) Feist of Lousville, CO. He is also survived by his father- and mother-in-law, Billy and Edie Sims, of Middletown, MD,nd an extended family of 10 brothers- and sisters-in-law, and 12 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father John D. Crimmins. Visitation will be Monday, October 31 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington St., Alexandria, VA. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at St. Louis Catholic Church, 2907 Popkins Lane, Alexandria, VA. Burial will follow at Ivy Hill Cemetery, 2823 King St., Alexandria, VA. Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Relief Services.Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Relief Services.
