Jack was born in Loris, South Carolina. He attended Clemson College on a ROTC scholarship and then served in the Air Force.
After his military service Jack moved his family to Virginia and joined his mother at Blaydes Lock Company. He built Blaydes Lock into one of the largest east coast security hardware distributors. Blaydes has been and remains a family owned business, currently headed by his son-in-law.
Jack loved boating and fishing his whole life from the Chesapeake Bay to Ocean City to Hilton Head. He especially enjoyed vacation cruises with his wife Shirley. He had a lifelong interest in real estate opportunities. He always looked forward to hosting their annual Christmas party with family and friends, and to reunions with the Brooks family in Hilton Head.
Most importantly, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Shirley B. Hildebrand and by his sons Jackie and Andy. He is survived by his daughter Julie (Tom) Rakes; his daughter-in-law Chris Hildebrand; his grandchildren Kathryn (Ethen) Adams, Elizabeth Rakes, Whitney Rakes, Andrew Hildebrand and Lincoln Hildebrand; and his great grandchildren Julian and Jackson Adams.
