Diana Abbey Bruce Eskin, 89, of Washington D.C., passed away peacefully on November 27, 2022.
Diana was born in Washington D.C. to Albert and Katherine Bruce. She grew up in San Francisco and Berkeley, California and attended U.C. Berkeley where she received a BA and MA in Political Science. Her love of learning was a life passion. She went on to receive a Master of Human Relations, a Master of Divinity and a PhD in Counseling from Catholic University. Her education brought her work experiences ranging from being a copyboy at the Washington Post to a legislative aide/writer for Congressman Clem Miller from California, and the Director of Christian Education at the National United Methodist Church in Washington D.C. Her career culminated as a Licensed Professional Counselor working many years as a therapist at the Fogel Foundation.
As the former wife of a career diplomat, Otho Eskin, Diana raised her family in Washington D.C., Damascus, Syria, Belgrade, Yugoslavia, Reykjavik, Iceland, and East Berlin, Germany before the fall of the Berlin Wall. Diana will be remembered as a loving mother and family member, for her intelligence, and unwavering affability. Diana was an avid reader and had a great love for her dogs. She also could have written the book on tidying up and being organized.
Diana is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Katherine Bruce and sister, Katherine Bruce.
Diana is survived by her former husband, Otho Eskin, her four children and their spouses: Neal (Ralf) of Munich, Germany, Edward (Silvia) of Washington D.C., Katherine (Brian) of Boston, Massachusetts, David (Monique) of Falls Church, Virginia. She is also survived by her sister, Nancy Applequist, and her seven grandchildren, Charlotte and Raphael Kahler, Christopher, Fiona and Megan Duckworth, and Joshua and Jacob Eskin.
Diana will be inurned at National United Methodist Church in Washington D.C. A memorial service will be planned for the spring of 2023.
The family expresses special appreciation to the staff at Forest Hills of DC where Diana lived her later years. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to her church, the National United Methodist Church.
