Betty Wray Lodewick

Betty Wray Lodewick of Alexandria, Virginia and Singer Island, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on July 13, 2024. Growing up in Louisville, KY, she found herself “sleeping” with future husband Larry at the ripe age of 10 days; as the two families were close neighborhood friends. Betty graduated Valedictorian from New Albany High School in 1948, then attended Indiana University as a sister of Kappa Alpha Theta and 1949 Arbutus Queen. On June 17, 1950, Betty married Larry in Louisville, Kentucky, a mere 15 days after his graduation from West Point. With their honeymoon interrupted by the outbreak of the Korean War, the Army sent the new 2nd Lieutenant and his bride to a castle in Germany where they welcomed daughter Valerie in 1951. After assignments at Fort Bragg and Fort Knox, Betty began a 50+ year career as a professional model and television commercial actress. While Larry was in Vietnam, Betty began a second career as a realtor in Northern Virginia and Florida, where the couple shared a home on Singer Island for 38 years. At Sugar Sands, Betty was happiest modeling, teaching exercise classes and organizing social events for her many friends. Later in life Betty’s greatest joy was being grandmother to Robert and BJ, spending summers traveling up and down the east coast in the family van. She and Larry also joined many friends from West Point’s Class of 1950 for yearly reunions across the country. Her long and happy life is celebrated by her family, including daughter Valerie Lloyd (Robert), grandsons LTC Robert Lodewick and Robert Lloyd, Jr (Morgan), and great-grandchildren Mackenzie and Thomas Lodewick, as well as her devoted caregivers. A private family burial at Arlington National Cemetery will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Betty’s name to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
