Margaret Elizabeth Fiser Langston, age 93, is survived by her three adoring daughters, Elizabeth Ann, Kelly Marie, and Catherine Esther, along with her son-in-law, Phillip Carter, and her cherished granddaughter, Elizabeth Catherine Carter-Fayers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Edward Langston. Margaret also leaves behind her loving nieces and nephews: Bill, Debra, Robbie, Cindy, Karen, David, Johnny, Cheryl, Ronnie, Sue, and Kendall, as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews and her sister-in-law, Marianne.
Known to many as "Marcie," Margaret loved and was loved by many. Her unassuming demeanor hid a woman of great intellectual curiosity and a voracious reader. A talented pianist from a young age, she won a piano contest that earned her a college scholarship to SMU. Though the tragic loss of her mother delayed her graduation, Margaret persevered, eventually earning her English degree. She taught school, married Bill, and raised 3 daughters. Her love for her daughters remained her top priority. Later in life she returned to work at Social Security Disability Determination until her retirement.
After retiring, Margaret embarked on a multi-year personal project to read her way through history, beginning with Greek literature and continuing up to the 1930s.
Margaret exuded a special force that drew people to her – a combination of acceptance and love. Strangers were drawn to her, especially those most vulnerable. Time-and-time again people young and old would come to talk to her to absorb her healing compassion. Even in her final days, the angelic assistants at her assisting living home told us “We love your mother.”
She was not a wealthy woman but was extremely generous; there to help people in moments of dire need. One of her guiding principles was “Don’t worry about something until it happens.” This low stress strategy must have healing properties – she ate what she wanted, never exercised, but still lived to the age of 93.
Though Margaret has left this world, her spirit lives on in the lives she touched. Her legacy is one of kindness, acceptance, and peace —a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to her family. Her memory will forever be a source of comfort and strength for all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 24 at 4pm at Oak Forest United Methodist Church, 2415 South Fair Park Blvd, Little Rock, AR.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Oak Forest United Methodist Church.
