Richard passed away in Abbotsford on December 28, 2021, at the age of 73. He was known for his good nature and playful sense of humour, and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Richard grew up in North Vancouver and Toronto, and earned his bachelor’s degree from UBC. He spent thirty plus years working for CIBC and VanCity Credit Union, during which time he lived in many places throughout BC. After raising a family, he and his wife Virginia spent most of their retirement years in beautiful Victoria, before eventually relocating to the mainland to be closer to family. He enjoyed his semi-retirement tending the fairways at the Highland Pacific Golf Course in Victoria.
Richard had many hobbies and interests including airplanes, science fiction novels, bird watching, Scottish country dancing, barbershop singing, golfing, playing guitar and other instruments, and watching car racing. He loved to be actively involved in his community no matter where he lived, and was even elected a city councillor in Grand Forks, BC. He was a long time member of the Christian Science church.
Predeceased by his parents Edith and Norman and step mom June, mother-in-law Blanche, father-in-law George, sister-in-law Betty and his beloved wife Virginia, he is survived by his family, son Doug (Sarah), daughter Linda (Malcolm), sister Marj (Rick), step sister Carol (Jim), brothers-in-law Bruce (Chris) and Wally (Erica), grandchildren Nika, Avery, Chantal, Tiarnan, and Fionnbharr, and many nieces and nephews and their children.
Thank you to the kind staff at Menno Homes in Abbotsford who provided such great care during Richard’s final months. A memorial service is not planned at this time.
