Life for Wanda Sue Withers began on October 12, 1951, in Russell Springs, Kentucky. In the house they made their home, Trulen and Eva Withers taught their daughters strong morals and values that helped define their character. Being a person of their word, the value of family and that pride in yourself comes with hard work.
From an early age, Wanda along with her older sister LaVerda and younger sister Regina, learned how to cook, tend to a garden, how to sew and the art of quilting. Although considered chores as a child, these duties all became things she enjoyed doing during her life.
Adulthood brought new roles into Wanda’s life like Air Force wife, Mom and Nana. The family spent many weekends in the outdoors and were avid campers, enjoying hiking, riding dirt bikes, tubing down the river or water skiing at the lake. The country breakfast that Wanda would cook on an open fire, was unmatched and a huge family favorite.
Nothing made her happier than cooking a huge meal and having her entire family over to eat until they were all stuffed. In the summer of 1995, Wanda and husband Joel settled in Knoxville, TN. After working as the Office Manager at Mayfield Dairy Farms for many years, she took early retirement. Her time was spent as it had always been, supporting and loving her family, friends and neighbors.
Wanda also loved working in her yard, which is where you would find her every night until the sun set. Her evenings were filled with watering, planting, mulching, grooming the grass, checking on her many plants and flowers found in every direction, and enjoying a chatwith one of her long-time neighbors.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Sherwood Chapel and Memorial Gardens, 3176 Airport Highway, Alcoa, TN 37701. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 pm. Brother Darrell McCroskey will begin the celebration.
