Bishop Gary Eugene Wright

Bishop Gary E. Wright, age 67, transitioned from labor to reward peacefully on December 27, 2022, surrounded by family and friends at home. Son of Mae F. Wright and Clarence "Zook" Thompson, he graduated from Rule High School in 1973 and went on to work for 19 years at KUB in the gas Engineering Department. His 45 years in the ministry include him serving as pastor of churches in Knoxville, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Florida. Bishop Wright served as the Presiding National Bishop of the Biblical House of God organization and currently as Bishop and Senior Pastor of Kingdom Life Church of Knoxville.

Bishop Wright was preceded in passing by his grandparents, Jessie and Hugh Thompson Sr. and Frances Wright; father, Clarence Thompson; mother-in-law, Harneathia Thompson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted and loving wife of over 35 years Frenchie A. Wright; children, Gary E. Wright II, Kristy M. Wright both of Murfreesboro, TN, Sedarrius Wright of Jacksonville, FL; Mothers, Mae F. Smith and Betty Thompson; siblings, Cynthia (Larry) Fletcher, Jamie Thomas both of Knoxville, TN, Gregory (Joyce) Wright of Villa Rica, GA, Michael (Elsie) Wright of Fort Walton Beach, FL; siblings, Clarence, Christopher, Todd, Joey Thompson and Denise Hall all of Knoxville; grandchildren, Sgt. Brooklyn Wright of The United Kingdom, Omarion Wright of Knoxville, Mikayla and Myles Wright of Murfreesboro, TN; aunt, Freda Bridgett Tucker of Memphis, TN; uncles, Lee and Royce Wright both of Knoxville, and many other relatives and close friends. Bishop Wright will lie-in-state on Friday, January 6, 2023, from 12:00pm to 6:00pm at Word of Life Ministries, 3819 Speedway Circle, Knoxville, TN 37914, a visitation will be held from 11:00am to 12:00pm at Overcoming Believers Church, 211 Harriet Tubman St., Knoxville, TN 37915, with a celebration of life service to follow at 12:00pm. Family and friends will go in procession directly after the service to Sherwood Memorial Gardens, 3176 Airport Highway, Alcoa, TN 37701 for the committal service.
