Robert Edward Dininny passed away peacefully in his home on January 1, 2024. He was born May 6, 1932 in Elmira, NY, the son of Robert and Elsie (Woodford) Dininny. He was the 4th of 6 children. Robert grew up in Susquehanna, PA and graduated as valedictorian of his High School class in 1949. In 1954, Robert graduated with honors from Allegheny College, in Meadville, PA, with a BS in Chemistry. He earned a Ph.D in Physical Chemistry from Case Western Reserve University in 1958.
Robert met his wife Jacelyn Brown while attending Allegheny College and they were married in 1954. Robert taught Chemistry for 3 years at Union College in Schenectady, NY and 33 years at Albion College in Albion, MI until he retired. Robert and Jacie bought their lifelong home in Albion in 1963. They had 3 children Robert J., David R., and Kathleen A. (Hutchins).
Bob and Jacie vacationed/wintered prior to and after retirement on Sanibel Island, FL. During those years, Bob was an avid shell collector. Bob loved singing harmony and sang Barbershop with the Battle Creek Chorus and most recently as a member of The Town and Country Chorus, from Hillsdale. Bob was a member of the Albion First United Methodist Church, where he also sang in the choir. Bob enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening. Those close to him reaped the rewards of his hobbies. Bob was actively involved in the local American Red Cross blood drives. His family will always remember him for his intelligence, wisdom, and generosity.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Jacie, in 2008, after her battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He met and married Rosemary Sprague in 2012 and they resided in Jonesville, until her passing in 2021. Bob returned to live in his home in Albion, in June of 2021.
Bob was also preceded in death by his eldest son Rob (Vicki) in 2019, his parents Robert and Elsie Dininny, his brothers Dick and Jerry, and his sisters Pat, Janet, and most recently his beloved sister Jean (November 2023). He is survived by his son David Dininny (Jenn) of Highland Heights, OH, his daughter Kathleen Hutchins of Albion, MI, his daughter-in-law Vicki Dininny (Rob) of Concord, MI, his stepson Roger Sprague of Litchfield, MI, his stepdaughter Mary Longfield of Jonesville, MI, 12 grandchildren: Christina Niceswander (Chris), Brenda Ball (Jon), Robert Dininny (Shaeli), Zachary Dininny (Emily), Joseph Hutchins, Rocky Hutchins (Miranda), Jacelyn Hutchins, Elizabeth Adams (Keith), Brandi Haba (Jon), Jessica Wolverton (Joe), Jordi Manuel (Shane), Jacob Carothers, and 13 great grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held on May 11, 2024 with visitation starting at 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at Albion First United Methodist Church, 600 E. Michigan Avenue, Albion, MI. A luncheon will follow at the church.
