Melvin Curtis Motley “Jody” “Saj” age 56 of Duluth, Georgia, formerly Albion passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020 in Lawrenceville, GA. Jody was born September 20, 1963 in Logan, West Virginia the son of Phyllis Motley and the late Melvin Martin. Jody attended Albion Senior High, graduating class of 1981. He then moved out to Los Angeles, CA where he lived for 25 years, eventually making it back home to Albion for some time and living several other places before finally settling in the Atlanta, GA area for the last 7 years.
Jody loved music and was a talented Bass Guitarist, playing at many venues in his life including appearing on Soul Train in 1992. As a Kindergartener, Jody was featured on the News with Walter Cronkite for Albion’s first Earth Day Celebration. He was an awesome communicator, loved to socialize and talk on the phone. He was known as the “Superstar” of his family and everybody looked up to him. Jody also loved to cook and loved to eat home-cooked meals, especially spaghetti, tacos and pizza.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Phyllis Motley of Albion, his children: Jamari (Rosita) Hill, Jovan Motley, Saj Motley, step-son: Roy Wolfe III, 5 grandchildren: Kaylee, Khalen, Ky’Mani, Autumn, Jovan Jr., 1 great-grandson: Dionte, siblings: Ora Sims, Djuana Motley-Dismuke, Sherika Motley and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and countless friends.
Services for Jody will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2020 beginning with family hour at 11AM until the time of his Homegoing Celebration at 1PM at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr., Albion with Apostle Timothy Kurtz officiating. He will be laid to rest in Albion Memory Gardens.
Due to the current restrictions with COVID-19, the service will be private and please be prepared to practice social distancing and adhere to the current guidelines during the family hour.
