Calvin C. Lewis, 90, transitioned from this life and into the presence of God Monday, September 30, 2024 at home. His son, Charles was in attendance. Calvin was born April 12 1934 to Kyser and Lola Mae (Bell) Lewis in Greenville, Alabama. He was the fourteenth child of sixteen born to this union.
His early education through Greenville School System. He later attended and graduated from Washington Gardner High School in Albion, MI, class of 1952.
His home church was Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church where he attended with his entire family. He united with Mt. Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of Charlie Joe Jones while residing in Albion.
Calvin served this country as a Corporal in the United States Army. He served two years. He was a tank driver while stationed in Mannheim, Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1955.
Calvin was married twice. First to Luella Kemp Lewis and then Ella Mae Lewis, Seven children were born of these two unions: Charles, Earl D., Brenda, Len Theliac, Anthony, Angela and Jala.
Calvin worked at Corning Glass, Albion, until they shut down. He was then employed at Albion Industries, formerly known as Albion Malleable Iron Company for 30 years until his retirement. His work ethic would not allow him to sit and do nothing. He had to stay active and engaged. His hobbies were bowling, hunting, and fishing. During his retirement, he started his own landscaping and snow removal business. He was also a skilled handyman. He was a blessing to many in Albion; he loved to help others.
Calvin was a true nurturer and protector to his children, grandchildren and sisters. He dearly loved them all because they gave him great joy and love.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, Ella Mae Lewis and Luella Kemp Lewis, son, Earl D. Lewis, grandson, Anthony Lewis, 11 sisters, and 3 brothers.
Calvin leaves to cherish his precious memory, sons Charles Lewis (Regina), Len Theliac Lewis (Mary) and Anthony Lewis, daughters, Brenda Atchison (Lee), Angela Lewis and Jala Lewis, one sister, Vera Simpson, 22 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Calvin’s family will invite visitors for a wake on Friday, October 11th from 4-8PM at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr., Albion. Family Hour will be Monday, October 14, 2024 from 11AM until the time of Calvin’s Home Going Celebration at 12PM at Freeway Church, 28900 B-Drive N., Albion. He will be laid to rest with full military honors on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at 1:30PM at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI.
