Our beloved Alice Patricia Vaughn passed away Sunday morning, July16th at her home in the loving care of her husband and friends after a courageous battle with cancer. She married Robert Clark on August 9th, 1997 and they enjoyed many years together. Alice was born on March 17, 1949 to Henry and Helen Vaughn of Jackson, Michigan. Probably because of being born on St. Patrick’s Day, Alice was famous for being a “Pistol” in her youth. But as an adult, her generosity of spirit was extraordinary. She always had time for people in her life which included step children, nieces and nephews, a willing heart and a listening ear, each one was a favorite to her in their own special way. Her happiest years were after Rob came into her life. Together they built a hill-top cabin where they could garden, walk their own land, and feed friends and family, in a home warmed by their delight in simply being with each other.
During her years with Rob, she owned Alice’s Diner in Albion, where people found a warm and friendly place with good food. Alice always accepted every person as they were. Always quick to see the brightness and humor in others, Alice spread warmth and stability into every life. During her retirement years, she enjoyed traveling and making new friends wherever they stopped.
Alice received a Big Sister Award for the care and kindness she gave to her little sister Callie Taylor who she still kept close contact with. Those deeply affected by her kindness include Rob’s sons, Chris and Bobby and grandson, Blake, Stepdaughter, Jill Van Kirk Negus, little sister, Callie and her children.
Survivors include sisters, Nancy Howlett (husband, Linwood) of Williamston and Ruth Baker (husband, Brian) of Mount Pleasant, along with many nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Helen and beloved brother, Steve Swartout.
Per Alice’s request, cremation has taken place. She wanted everyone that came into her life to remember her for who she was and how she enjoyed everyone from all walks of life. There will be no service, just a private memorial at a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted to J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, Albion, MI. To leave online messages of condolence, please visit www.kevintiddfuneralhome.com.
