Douglas “Doug” Mercer, age 87 of Akron, passed away on January 29, 2024.
Doug was born on October 6, 1936 in Warren, Ohio to Elwin and Ruth (Williams) Mercer. He graduated from Hiram College. Doug served in the US Army from 1959 to 1961. Doug worked on many projects at Goodrich Tire Company where he helped innovate new ideas in tires. He worked at Goodrich for nine years, and then at General Tire for 23 years. Doug enjoyed playing golf, bowling, going on trips to learn about the Civil War, and skiing. He belonged to the Warren Gun Club, The Akron Rubber Group, and the American Chemical Society.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Doug will be missed by his cousins, Earl Belden, Phyllis Leininger, and Dennis Williams.
A private military service will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
